Description

This Caprese Sandwich Recipe is a fresh and flavorful Italian inspired sandwich made with juicy tomatoes, creamy mozzarella, fragrant basil, and crusty bread. Perfect for a quick lunch, picnic, or light meal, it delivers classic summer flavors with minimal preparation.


Ingredients

  • 2 ciabatta rolls, baguette pieces, or sandwich bread
  • 2 large ripe tomatoes, sliced
  • 8 oz fresh mozzarella, sliced
  • Fresh basil leaves
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic glaze or balsamic vinegar
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
  • Optional: 2 tablespoons pesto or pesto mayo

Instructions

  1. Slice the tomatoes and fresh mozzarella evenly.
  2. Cut the bread in half and lightly toast if desired.
  3. Drizzle olive oil on the inside of the bread.
  4. Layer mozzarella slices on the bread.
  5. Add tomato slices evenly over the mozzarella.
  6. Top with fresh basil leaves.
  7. Season with salt and black pepper.
  8. Drizzle with balsamic glaze and spread pesto or pesto mayo if using.
  9. Close the sandwich and gently press together.
  10. Serve immediately and enjoy.

Notes

Use the freshest tomatoes, mozzarella, and basil for the best flavor. Lightly salt the tomatoes before assembling and avoid overloading the sandwich to prevent soggy bread. Ciabatta, baguette, or focaccia work especially well.
