It’s the perfect sweet-and-salty holiday treat that comes together in under 30 minutes ideal for gifting, parties, or simply indulging in a little Christmas magic.
Ingredients
- 40 saltine crackers
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup dark brown sugar
- 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ cup chopped nuts (pecans, almonds, or pistachios)
- 1 teaspoon Maldon sea salt (optional)
- Holiday sprinkles or crushed candy canes for topping
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a sheet pan with parchment paper or foil.
- Arrange saltine crackers in a single layer, edge to edge.
- In a medium saucepan, melt butter and brown sugar together over medium heat, stirring continuously until it boils. Cook for about 3 minutes until thickened.
- Pour hot caramel evenly over the crackers and spread to the edges.
- Bake for 5 minutes until bubbly and golden.
- Remove from oven and sprinkle chocolate chips over hot caramel. Let sit 1 minute, then spread evenly.
- Add toppings (nuts, candy canes, or sprinkles) while chocolate is still warm.
- Cool at room temperature for 20–30 minutes, then refrigerate for at least 1 hour until fully set.
- Break into pieces and store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two weeks or freeze for longer freshness.
Notes
For best results, ensure the caramel bubbles for at least 3 minutes before pouring over crackers. Let layers cool gradually before chilling to prevent separation. Customize with toppings like white chocolate drizzle, crushed pretzels, or shredded coconut for extra flair!
