Ingredients
Scale
- 2 pounds boneless chicken thighs (or chicken breasts)
- 2 tablespoons fresh ginger, grated
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 1/3 cup soy sauce (or low-sodium, or tamari for gluten-free)
- 3 tablespoons hoisin sauce
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil (optional)
- Sesame seeds, for garnish
- Chopped green onions or cilantro, for garnish
Instructions
- In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, hoisin sauce, honey, brown sugar, ginger, and garlic.
- Place chicken thighs into the slow cooker and pour sauce mixture over them.
- Cover and cook on low for 6 hours or on high for 3 hours, until chicken is tender and fully cooked.
- For a thicker sauce, remove some liquid and simmer it on the stove until reduced, then pour back over chicken.
- Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions before serving.
Notes
For extra flavor, sear chicken before placing it in the slow cooker. You can marinate the chicken in the sauce overnight for a richer taste. Adjust sweetness or saltiness by balancing honey and soy sauce levels.
