Description

These Halloween Funfetti Cupcakes are moist, fluffy, and loaded with black, orange, and purple sprinkles. Topped with bold black cocoa frosting, they’re the perfect spooky-yet-cute treat for Halloween parties and gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened, dairy or plant-based)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 large egg whites
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1/2 cup milk (dairy or plant-based)
  • 1/2 cup Halloween-colored sprinkles (black, orange, purple)
  • 1/2 cup butter (softened, for frosting)
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup black cocoa powder
  • 34 tablespoons milk or cream
  • Extra sprinkles, candy eyes, or spooky toppings for decorating

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin pan with Halloween cupcake liners.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add egg whites one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Stir in vanilla and almond extract.
  6. Alternate adding dry ingredients and milk to the butter mixture, mixing until just combined.
  7. Fold in Halloween sprinkles gently.
  8. Fill liners two-thirds full and bake for 18–20 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean.
  9. Let cupcakes cool completely before frosting.
  10. For frosting: Beat softened butter until creamy, then gradually add powdered sugar and black cocoa powder. Add milk or cream as needed until fluffy and spreadable.
  11. Pipe frosting onto cooled cupcakes and decorate with sprinkles, candy eyes, or spooky toppers.

Notes

Use jimmies or confetti sprinkles for best results—they won’t bleed color into the batter. Frost cupcakes just before serving for freshest results. These cupcakes can also be decorated with edible eyeballs, gummy worms, or candy spiders for extra Halloween fun.
