Description

This hearty homemade lasagna recipe is the ultimate comfort food. With rich meat sauce, creamy ricotta filling, and a golden cheesy topping, it’s perfect for busy weeknights, family gatherings, or make-ahead freezer meals. Simple, delicious, and always a crowd-pleaser.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 jar (24 oz) spaghetti sauce
  • 12 no-boil lasagna noodles
  • 2 cups ricotta cheese (or cottage cheese)
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
  • 1 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 2 teaspoons Italian herbs (basil, oregano)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: 2 cups spinach or zucchini slices

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a skillet, cook ground beef with onion and garlic until browned. Drain excess fat.
  3. Add spaghetti sauce to the beef mixture, season with Italian herbs, and let simmer for 10 minutes.
  4. In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese, parmesan, 1 1/2 cups mozzarella, salt, and pepper.
  5. Spread a thin layer of meat sauce in a 13×9 baking dish. Place noodles on top, followed by cheese mixture, then more sauce. Repeat layers until full, finishing with sauce and remaining mozzarella.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  7. Remove foil and bake another 10 minutes, until cheese is golden and bubbling.
  8. Let rest 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

This lasagna can be assembled up to 24 hours in advance or frozen for up to 3 months. For extra creaminess, mix mozzarella into the ricotta filling. Let the lasagna rest before serving to keep layers neat.
