- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg yolk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon red food coloring
- 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup red sanding sugar
- 18 Hershey’s Kisses, unwrapped
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, beat butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Mix in egg yolk, vanilla extract, and red food coloring until fully combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing just until combined.
- Scoop dough into 1-inch balls and roll each ball in red sanding sugar.
- Place cookies on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 8–10 minutes until edges are set.
- Remove from oven and immediately press a Hershey’s Kiss into the center of each cookie.
- Let cookies cool for 5 minutes on the baking sheet, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
For best results, use room-temperature butter and avoid overbaking to keep the cookies soft and chewy. Chill the dough briefly if it feels sticky, and press the Hershey’s Kiss gently so the cookies don’t crack.
